Some things that were told to me by competition riders including the previous owner of this bike.

Competition bikes:

A.  Frames are extremely important, feel and handling are of the highest priority.  Low weight is nice since it’ll allow for heavier components but it isn’t essential.

  You’ll see most competition bikes with aluminum bars, not carbon.  This is for ultimate stiffness.

  Reliable shifting is a must, the SRAM Red FD here is ditched for the better performing but heavier FORCE piece.

D.  Wheels need to be bomb-proof even if they’re a bit heavy.  Tires need to be GRIPPY!

E.  Again, good modulation and overall price/ performance is chosen over weight savings ie SRAM Rival brakes vs Sram Red.
